Ford EcoBoost Wet Belt

The 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder petrol has been fitted to the Fiesta, Focus, EcoSport, B-Max, C-Max and Puma since 2012. Instead of a dry cambelt or a chain, it uses a "wet" timing belt that runs bathed in engine oil. As the belt ages it breaks down and sheds fragments into the oil.

Those fragments collect in the oil pump pickup strainer. As it blocks, oil pressure drops — first an oil pressure light that comes and goes, then noise, and in the worst cases a seized engine. A belt that has been run on the wrong oil or gone long between oil changes degrades faster, which is why the specification of oil matters so much on this engine.

The early 1.0 EcoBoost also had coolant problems. Some cars built from 2012 to 2014 had a coolant hose that could split, and Ford recalled them. Low coolant can lead to overheating and a cracked cylinder head, so we check the coolant system and recall status whenever one comes in.

The belt interval depends on the year and engine version, and Ford has revised it more than once. We check the current figure for your car and give you a fixed quote. When we do the job we drain the oil, fit the correct belt kit, inspect the oil pickup and replace the strainer if it is contaminated.
